The Aussie market is set to start the new trading week on a positive note, bolstered by gains in Europe and Wall Street on Friday night.

SPI futures closed up 18 points on Saturday morning, at 5707.

With Wall Street closed tonight for the Martin Luther King Jr holiday, there’s a chance volumes will be lighter than usual today and tomorrow.

Overseas data: US markets closed for Martin Luther King Jr holiday; Japan machine orders November, PPI December; Euro zone trade balance November

  • AUD at US75.05¢
  • Dow Jones flat; S&P500 +0.2pc; Nasdaq +0.5pc
  • FTSE100 +0.6pc, CAC +1.2pc, DAX +0.9pc

  • Brent oil -1pc at $US55.45 a barrel
